Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee Remake Built from Scratch

Development team Just Add Water has been working on an HD remake of Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee since last year. However, this isn’t your typical HD remake. They aren’t just taking the old assets and updating them. Rather, they are using the original game as a blueprint of sorts and rebuilding everything from scratch. So, basically, they’re rebuilding all the 3D models, applying new textures, redoing all the animations, recording new sounds, and reprogramming everything. At least, that’s what I’ve gathered from their explanation.

Original reports were saying that the game would be ready by Summer of 2013, but studio coordinator Wil Bunce really doesn’t see that happening. He posted in a forum that there’s “not one person on the development team who thinks that’s going to happen.” Is it me, or does it seem like 2014 is a long time to wait for a remake of a game that’s about 15 years old at this point?
