There was a party for the 25th anniversary of Metal Gear the other night, and a lot of interesting news came from it. No, it’s not that Hideo Kojima got drunk and started a fight with a coat rack, though that would be awesome. First off, Metal Gear Solid, the game that is always mocked as already being a movie, is going to be made into an actual movie. The film was announced by X-Men and Spider-Man producer Avi Arad and is being made by Columbia Pictures. It is unclear at this moment how much influence Hideo Kojima will have in its development.
Next, attendees where all tweeting about Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. It is the first game to utilize the company’s Fox Engine, which is apperently something to be in awe of. It also appears that Ground Zeroes takes place in an open world environment, as we see Snake driving a jeep and calling in a helicopter. Oh. By the way, it’s all running on a PC that has specs equivalent to today’s current consoles, like PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The rest of the public will probably (hopefully) get a demonstration soon, but for now, we have the image you see at the end of the article.
Finally, Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops will be coming to smartphones this year. It’s suppose to revisit previous MGS story lines and have a card based battle system along with a Mother Base development aspect that is similar to Peace Walker. So, if you are a fan of the series, you definitely have plenty stuff to look forward to.
