Chris posts a blog?
Wait? What?
Yep, I’ve neglected the blog section long enough. This week we decided on not doing a podcast because of the holiday, and well, Adam was hanging out in the woods again… My performance on the last The Lost Level was to be desired, so I wanted to formally apologize. I blame lack of sleep, and lack of Guinness. I never realized just how important my precast ritual is, but wow…
Tuesday was the start of the gaming season with Resistance 3, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine, and Dead Island. Some people will say last week because of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but that game felt like it came out of nowhere. Sorry Deus Ex fans, it did.
I love this time a year. It’s always interesting to see what people are buying day 1. One friend of the site actually bought the new Sony headphones instead of picking up games. Perhaps that was a wise move because so many games have been going on sale a week or two after release lately. I hope that doesn’t become a trend. I was victim to it with Dues Ex, I read the reviews, ran out and picked it up. Now its been on sale a lot of places. That really grinds my gears.
I did pick up Resistance 3, and Space Marine on Tuesday. I managed to finish Resistance on Thursday, and I honestly can’t wait to do a roundtable for it. Should be an interesting cast.
Resistance has always been a franchise that I really enjoyed. When I worked at the other website we did a review for Resistance 2, and I was in the minority for liking it. It can be very unforgiving at times, and it caused a lot of frustration on normal, and hard difficulties. So I wanted to see how the franchise played on easy. It was a brand new experience. I had a lot of fun with the game. Yes, I am aware that can be considered “taboo” for some people. Listen, I play games to have fun. I have plenty of other things in my life to stress me out, the last thing I want is a game that pisses me off so much I am more angry than when I turned it on.
Some franchises are like that, very hard and challenging, and I’ll choose not to play them. Ninja Gaiden, I’m looking at you! I played Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on hard my first play through, I hated that game. I liked the story, but by the time I got to the end, I felt like I hated Star Wars all together. That stupid Star Destroyer level! Still pissed at that one. Then I played through the game a second time, that time on easy, and it was the way the game should have been all a long. You actually felt like a bad ass Jedi. You just cut through Storm Troopers, murdering Jango Fett clones that aim like they did in the movies. THAT’S STAR WARS!
Which brings me back to my point, games don’t need to be played on hard all the time. It’s Ok to sit back and just enjoy the game. I did that to franchises like Resistance, Killzone, and Force Unleashed, and I am so happy I did. The enjoyment came back, and I haven’t broken a controller in days!
Be on the look out for the new The Lost Level episode next week. We will be covering games and movies as usual, and there has been some good topics to cover since we sat down and did the last cast. Which again, wasn’t my best. Sorry. If you have any Dark Knight Rises stuff you want me to talk about please let me know. Gzep LOVES when I talk about that, and Avengers news.
Also, we are going to do another Roundtable. (finally) Resistance 3 will be spoiled for all the fans of our round tables. I’m anxious to get back in the hosting chair for another cast.
Lastly, I hope to get my butt in the theater this weekend to do another “Double Spaced Review”. The intention of these reviews are for the ADD in all of us, short, sweet, and to the point.
